Boot Camp Training for the Sleep Technologist...(A-STEP program)
Boot camp is never easy. This program offers 80 hours of didactic training recommended by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). The participant will achieve the essentials necessary, as set forth by the AASM’s 29 standards of achievement, to promote an understanding of basic principals of polysomnography and the role of the sleep technician. This program is offered for those who are interested in a career change with limited or no previous health care experience. By working with accredited Sleep Centers, this program will allow those emerging into this new field registry eligibility status after 9 months (NEW) full-time of on the job training or 18 months part-time.
A certificate of completion will be given to students who have attended this program. You will then be required to register with the AASM via their website at www.aasmnet.org, where you will then need to complete a 110 question final exam followed by 14 self learning modules. The modules will be self-paced open book costing $30/each.
New in 2010
Students who complete an A-STEP program, a designated sub-set of the A-STEP Self-Study Online Modules, and have verification of working a minimum of three months of fulltime paid experience in PSG, defined as 36 hrs per week or a cumulative total of 432 hours are now eligible to sit for the certification credential also known as CPSGT.
